Crayons and Oil Pastels

Using a combination of oil pastel, crayons, and paint, this image was created. With oil pastels thick, solid lines were drawn to create the flower image. The flower was suggested to take up as much space as possible. We then painted it with a black hue and used a semi-wet paper towel to wipe the excess away. This created a "pull" to the piece and gave it a dramatic look. I'm not too sure what the flower is supposed to be, but I like it nonetheless.
Lines could have been a little thicker and more prominent but I do like the finished product.

This piece was inspired by a painter who did most of her work using flowers. Another option would be to have students write a story starting with the prompt, "In a field full of flowers..." Students could talk about sunshine, things they do in the summer, what their favorite flower is... It's open for possibilities!
